Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ten individuals were apprehended by Addis Ababa Police for allegedly swindling money from the public by feigning kidney disease.
The suspects reportedly approached citizens, claiming their friend suffered from the ailment. However, authorities revealed the friend was healthy, exposing the elaborate ruse.
The arrests occurred in Addis Sefer, a designated zone within Addis City Sub-City District 14. Police apprehended the suspects while they were actively collecting funds.
A minibus with license plate number 3- B21705 AA was reportedly used by the group in their fraudulent activities.
When apprehended, the suspects were found to be in possession of over 5,000 Ethiopian birr (approximately $120 USD) collected from unsuspecting citizens.

Authorities noted a concerning pattern of similar scams occurring across Addis Ababa. The public is urged to be vigilant and request verifiable medical documentation to confirm any claims of illness before offering financial assistance. Verifying the authenticity of such documents is crucial to avoid falling victim to such scams.
